A Failed Adventure

A Failed Adventure

We have been harassing our friend for ages to take us crabbing but he normally goes during the week. We convinced him to take us on Monday night as Tuesday was a public holiday for us. Tuesday was the Melbourne Cup which is public holiday for a horse race. We met up for dinner around the corner then headed off afterwards. We did not know where we were going.  After nearly two hours of driving we got to our destination and it was stunning.

Our friends said plenty of crabs but tonight we had not been lucky. We got to the pier and no crabs to be found at all. We waited an hour and by this stage in was nearly 9 pm and was still about a two hour drive back and still no sign so we gave up and headed home. We took a relaxing drive home  past the Desalination plant. We got home at 12 am and even though we did not catch anything we still spent some quality time together. We will go again another day.

Have you had an experience like this ?

Dandenong Festival Of Lights

Dandenong Festival Of Lights

Last night we caught up with some friends and we had some dinner then decided to go to the Chinese Lantern Festival, it was a cold windy night with patches of rain but that did not stop us.We arrived at about 8:30 pm  and it was fairly busy but as the rain started it emptied out quickly. Its good when its quieter as no one gets in your way when taking photos.

As you entered there was a row of moons on each side and each moon had a different facial expression.

The castle was made up of plates and cups which must have taken a long time to make which is worth a visit to see.

They had a Finding Nemo section which i did not expect.

The man turned around and would "pee" at certain points which was random and funny, I have never seen children being so excited about being peed on.

They had plenty of Pandas.

The African section was random but that's what i like anyway.

I was not a fan of the Australian section.

The zodiac section made us all laugh.

I am not sure why but the rooster they called it cock not cockerel but this is not the first time. My friend had a animal chart that has animals on it. It also says the name of the animal like cat, dog, fish, bird and also says cock.

The festival had a mystical section

Did you go or have been to a festival like this?

Ikea Hacks

Ikea Hacks

When we moved from our unit to our house we needed furniture so we went to Ikea and bought some blue book shelves. It gets to a point where you just need to change your furniture so we have seen all these blogs and pictures on Pinterest about Ikea Hacks. We thought why not and if we don't like it well we buy some new shelves.

So the first step was to wipe it down and then give it a light sand.

Use the finest sandpaper you can get, then wipe it again. The only Laminate primer we could get is White Knight and it is very watery as it is water based so it wipes off easily if you get it on you. We let it dry for a couple of hours. Because it was really hot it did not take long to dry.

The next step was to use the White knight Laminate paint. We got it tinted black so we could match our other dark furniture. Laminate paint is very thick and heavy, it also stinks really bad so make sure you have ventilation...

It takes a long time to dry so make sure you give it a couple of days.
Kim really wanted to put laminate wood on the side, so we measured the sides and went to our local hardware supplier and got them to cut the sizes we needed.

We then oiled the wood to give it deeper colours, we had oil from Ikea so we just used that.

After letting that dry for a few hours it was time to glue it to the shelves.

We glued the wood to the shelves and used heavy boxed to weigh it down.

The finished project.

We are happy with what we did.
Have you ever tried to do this? Paint your furniture or anything like that?
