The Mordy Supper Club

We moved away from Mordiallic a few years ago, and there was a few decent cafe's but this place is amazing. The last few reviews are pretty bad but we had an amazing experience there. It was busy outside but once you get inside it was quiet. The music was not too soft so you could not here it but not too loud so you could not have a conversation.

It has a good selection of alcohol including cocktails.

We had no idea what too eat and the bartender who was very friendly and genuine told us it was $10 parma night so why not give it a go.

Kim ordered the Lucky Duck apple cider, it was sweet like an apple but not too strong with alcohol. I had the Fifty lashes Pale Ale and it was good.

$10 got you a Parma, chips and salad , we got the Hombre which had Napoli sauce, cheese, corn chips, sour cream, guacamole and jalapenos. The parma was a good size and the flavours mix was just right. The chips where hot and the salad was fresh. You could not go wrong with the combination. It was a reasonably cheap night and we will go back again.

On It Burger

On It Burger

On It Burger has some bad reviews... I thought it was not as bad as people thought. It has a diner sort of feel to it.

It has a nice selection of burgers and fries.

I had the Nod burger which had 2 meat patties, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes, it was a nice size burger and the meat was good quality. Much better than TGIF but nearly as good as The Local Burger.

We had Parmesan and Truffle fries, the fries where a bit cold but not too bad taste wise. The onion rings where really crispy.
Kim had the Luke burger and it had a black bun, beef and bacon jam. It was sweet and tasty.

It has a small selection of beers.

It is really close to us compared to The Local Burger but we still enjoyed it. I think if the fries had been hot it would have made them that much better. We will give it another go though.
Have you had it?
What did you think?

The Diplomat

Today i was invited to go to a opening of a cafe', this cafe is smallish but because it is new it is very light and clean. It has an industrial style of light.

It has 4 Mazzer grinders so it has a nice selection of coffee available.

The short black i had was an ethiopian, it was really sweet and tasty, you can taste chocolates and grapes.

The muffin i ordered was a white chocolate and raspberry muffin. It was fresh and not too sweet.

I could not help it so i had another coffee, the latte was perfect. Not too hot but quite fruity and sweet.

I thought i should include the menu as well. I have a feeling it will become a very popular place once more people know about it. If you like Omar's coffee you will like this place.
Give it a go.

Ikea Hacks

Ikea Hacks

When we moved from our unit to our house we needed furniture so we went to Ikea and bought some blue book shelves. It gets to a point where you just need to change your furniture so we have seen all these blogs and pictures on Pinterest about Ikea Hacks. We thought why not and if we don't like it well we buy some new shelves.

So the first step was to wipe it down and then give it a light sand.

Use the finest sandpaper you can get, then wipe it again. The only Laminate primer we could get is White Knight and it is very watery as it is water based so it wipes off easily if you get it on you. We let it dry for a couple of hours. Because it was really hot it did not take long to dry.

The next step was to use the White knight Laminate paint. We got it tinted black so we could match our other dark furniture. Laminate paint is very thick and heavy, it also stinks really bad so make sure you have ventilation...

It takes a long time to dry so make sure you give it a couple of days.
Kim really wanted to put laminate wood on the side, so we measured the sides and went to our local hardware supplier and got them to cut the sizes we needed.

We then oiled the wood to give it deeper colours, we had oil from Ikea so we just used that.

After letting that dry for a few hours it was time to glue it to the shelves.

We glued the wood to the shelves and used heavy boxed to weigh it down.

The finished project.

We are happy with what we did.
Have you ever tried to do this? Paint your furniture or anything like that?

Technology and a random tangent

Technology and a random tangent

As I was reading a blog from Ally and it made me think about the internet and how it has changed all of our lives for the better and worse at the same time. I remember when i was building computers when i was younger and 65 mb of ram would cost $150+ now i can buy a 128gig usb for $10 on ebay. It would take hours to download one song and now 3 minutes to download a short documentary. You used to use vinyls to do Dj'ing and now you use your phone with a cable.

First personal computer on the left Xerox Alto and on the right is the Samsung Galaxy Note the Samsung has more speed and more data. The internet has helped crazy people download specs and print guns with 3d printers. People hack places like NASA and sony to get personal information. But if you have a business idea can go to kickstarter and get funded from random people and create a business, the people who started Cards Against Humanity had that simple idea that has made them millions.  You network with people all over the world with different forms of media like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and even Instagram. If you use facebook it tells you who you know and it really becomes a small world. Thats what really freaks me out and thats why I left facebook and i have enjoyed it. Try it for a month and see how you feel?

Anyway thats enough for know.
