Burgled

Burgled

While at work yesterday I was talking about about important things like beer, burgers and coffee. My customer told me about this burger place and said it was good. I was trying to decide between Cultural Commons in Springvale or somewhere different and even though i had a burger for lunch we decided to go Burgled.

The decor'is very random, they call it a sports bar. It has afl memorabilia  and just other random pictures all over the walls.

I was told its always packed, yes it was busy but we did not have to wait for a table.

I ordered a beer and with my luck they stopped stocking it along with my other three choices. The waitress suggested i try something not on the menu, sounded suss but why not.  The drink i ordered was a Blue mak

It said it was a lager but it tasted different to a normal larger, it was sweet and malty. I really enjoyed it for something different.

We ordered burgers and I got the Samurai, It had a panko chicken patty with asian slaw and wasabi aioli. Panko is wheat bread crumb so it is lighter and crispier than other types of bread crumbs.

It was sweet yet satisfying, the slaw was really tasty and the panko patty was not over cooked and had a little bit of that wasabi taste to it. I don't like english mustard or wasabi but this was not over the top so i would recommend this burger.

Kim ordered the Berlin, it had Kransky sausage, sauerkraut, pickles, cheese, tomato, mustard and ketchup.

Its a crazy looking burger and we had no idea what to expect. It was very random and kim enjoyed it. I guess you can turn a hotdog into a hamburger? They are very creative here at Burgled.

You can't have burgers without chips and the reviews said you need to try them, so we did.

They chips came with tomato sauce and aioli  sauce. The chips were fresh and very crispy and had some coating that gave them a different flavour. We could not pick it but they had lived up to my expectations.

Its well worth a try if you are close to the area

Baotime

Baotime

Last night we wanted to try something new for our usual cheap(-ish) Tuesday dinner with friends. Our friend was heard about Baotime through a friend who thought it was different and pretty good. A quick Urbanspoon search yielded a reasonable rating so we decided to give it a whirl. The area is annoying to find parking and after circling around we found a spot about down a side street a short walk away. It wasn't too far but i was really hungry and i am lazy.

Baotime was empty, there was another group and our group. Its a moodlit restaurant with cute street-style art on the wall. The drawcard for us was the bao loaded menu. Bao is Chinese for buns usually filled with meat, or even sweet fillings like red bean. The buns are made using riceflour.

We all shared two serves the Mister potato fries between four of us. They are french fries covered in melted butter so they were a bit crunchy but also a bit soggy, still tasty though. I don't think i have ever had fries tossed in butter... first time for everything.

First I had the Cuckoo Bao which was filled with chicken with spicy mozzarella cheese. The chicken was tender and it had a little bit of spice to it.

Then I had a Captain Bao which was Pork belly with crushed peanuts and special sauce, the special sauce tasted like plum sauce with something else. It was tasty but i still wanted more when i finished.

Our attendant was really nice and happy that we had come because our friend suggested it so she gave us a free sample of the Deep Fried Ice cream, the ice cream went well with the chocolate drizzle but the bun was very crispy and heavy. I think the bun could have been a bit lighter to complement the dense ice cream patty but was still very good.

I love Durian but a lot of people don't as it smells quite bad. I really enjoyed it as it was fresh and creamy.

It was nice to try something different but it was not enough food for myself. It was enough for Kim.  We spent $47 for our dinner so it ended up not being as cheap as we hoped and i was still hungry. If you don't eat a lot, or want a light snack i would suggest giving it a go if you're curious.

North East Precinct

North East Precinct

I wanted to go somewhere different and a friend of mine Tess ( Instagram info) went here and told me it was really good and the cold drip was amazing. I have been following here on Instagram for a while now and i really trust her judgement. If she says somewhere is good i know i will like it. North East Precinct has been open for 6 weeks now and they said everything is going well.

Here is my Vlog showing the experience.
