Home Run

Home Run

We have been in this house for 4 months now, we have painted 2 out of 4 bedrooms, the kitchen, lounge, the dinner room and entertainment room. I know we still have bathrooms to do but we will get there. Painting is a painful thing, well just slow. Once you set up and then start going it is not too bad. We have finally put up pictures so it is now feeling like a home not a house. If you have never moved you don't really understand what it is like.  When you move as many times as i have you would understand the feeling.

Putting up a picture wall is hard work, first you lie them on the ground and spend hours arranging them until you are happy with the layout, Then you start the process  of hanging each one up.

I love looking at the photos as they bring back lots of memories, weddings, parties, overseas trips and general shenanigans. But what is a life if we don't have the memories. I can't wait till our next holiday.

Hammer & Tong

Hammer & Tong
Hammer & Tong on Urbanspoon

Fitzroy is an amazing suburb is has Gelato Messina, N2 Extreme Gelato and plenty of different types of foods like greek, mexican, vegetarian, asian and it has plenty of bars and pubs. It is also known for the graffiti in the side streets. I can't draw a stick figure let alone anything fancy, you can spend hours just looking at the artwork.

I Had been here a few times before, i had breakfast and one night we found out they did dinner. It is another smallish cafe'. They use Duke's coffee and it is always consistent and tasty so we decided to go for dinner. When we sat down the waitress told us it is more Tapas style so small portions for sharing and we don't mind sharing we normally do. Some things are hard to share like burgers but you have to try it anyway.

It has a great wine selection, they do cocktails, beers, ciders and the coffees.

Kim had a Golden Gaytime Milkshake and it is caramel milkshake with vanilla ice cream and honeycomb biscuits. If you have never heard of them check it out Here

I had an Ethopian filter, light and fruity and thats what i love about Melbourne. The quality of the coffee available and how light and fruity it is.

For the first item we chose was the smoked duck and potato with chicken crackling and caviar. It was very smooth, sweet, creamy. The chicken was crispy. The flavours worked together and was a nice way to start a meal.

The next item was the soft shell crab burger. You really need 1 between 2 people, i thought they were going to be a few small ones not one bigger one being tapas style. It was super crispy and really tasty.

The third item was the potted prawns, fennel and charcoal bread. the bread was crispy and the prawns tasted quite sweet and fresh.

We chose the lebanese eggplant paneer curry with angel hair chilli and salad. It was not really spicy but it was tasty and looked really good. The eggplant was not over cooked and the tofu was good.

and finally our favorite thing twice cooked crispy pork with blood orange and star anise jus.,It had brussel sprouts with kale chips. Like with all the other food it was tender not overdone yet the skin was cooked to perfection, so crispy and the kale chips are so different and random. We loved the meals here and the staff are amazing. We will come back again for a meal.
It was a lovely night.

Beer and Plenty of Eating.

Beer and Plenty of Eating.

On Friday night we had to do more painting as we have avoided it like the plague...

After painting all night and most of Saturday, we went to the city to meet a friends sister who we had not met. It was a lovely warm night so we went to N2 extreme gelato

 N2 Extreme Instagram pics
That always have a strange mix of flavours but it is fun to go to and try. We had a cookie and cream ice cream and it is always fresh and tasty.

Sunday was a very busy day, we went to the city again and had lunch at the Munich Brauhaus. Being Octoberfest it was busy and an amazing sunny day, inside was quiet but outside was packed.
Kim will drink wheat beers only as she doesn't like the bitterness or taste of normal beers.

We ordered a Franziskaner Hefeweizen and that is pale wheat ale and a Mango Hefeweizen. The Mango Hefeweizen was very sweet and fruity, one of the best beers i have had in a while, Kim really enjoyed it

Our friend who is vegetarian got a leek pizza and her husband got the turkey club sandwich and it was big.

Kim and i shared the Munich Tasting Platter
It had a bit of everything and thats why we wanted it, it had different types of sausages, pork knuckles and pork belly. It was all cooked perfectly and not overcooked at all.

After stuffing ourselves we went for a walk to the ACMI ( Australian centre for the moving images) and they had a dreamworks animation expo so we got to walk around and play old school nintendo's

It was a great way to relax on a sunday, we should do it more often.
