Eau De Vie

First I would like to apologise  about some bit blurry photo's. I blame the darkness but a lot of alcohol does not help either.
A couple of weeks ago we went to Eau De Vie, which is a 1960's style bar. All the bartenders wear suits and they all look very snazzy.
Kim and i have been wanting to do the 5 course cocktail degustation for a long time now and we had the time and the reason. Her Birthday, It can only accommodate for 15 people and we know a lot of people who would love to have come( We will do it again so don't worry if you missed out this time)
It is located off a side street and has no name at all out the front, just has 2 large wooden doors and is quite small.

As we entered the room, they have a long table that has a ice section all around it. With the amount of glasses we knew that is was going to be a heavy drinking session. We were right..  Had a mixture of cocktails , going from light to heavy

Sugar cubes with different alcohol on them

It got to a point that our friends started crossing over to mocktails.

 Making Gelati

It went for about 5 hours and It was an amazing night, the thing we learned for next time is to do the mocktail degustation and order a couple of cocktails as it was the equivalent to 11 standard drinks so thank goodness for the photos as I don't remember a lot of the meals.

A busy weekend, Heaven Adores you

A busy weekend
This weekend was was one of those weekends that was full of ups and downs. We had a lot of painting to do so Friday  night we painted and all of Saturday.

I always hate the preparation for painting but once you start its not too bad. We have a house worth of painting to do. Kim absolutely smashed the painting last week.
Sunday was a bit more relaxing, she had a high tea at the rendezvous hotel in the city. On the way we stopped off and got some coffee beans as we had nearly run out. It was going to take about 2 hours so i wasn't going to go home. I went to a pub and had a beer by the bay.

I never do that so it was relaxing watching the world go by well drinking my drink. Their is never enough time in a day to enjoy some time to yourself. After the drink it was time to go gamble and anyone who knows me, knows I am a very tight person so I set my massive limit of $10. I love roulette, Odds / Evans or black / white. An hour later and a $15 profit i had to leave to pick up Kim. The reason we went to the city was to go see Heaven Adores you. Kim and I are huge Elliott smith fans. If you saw Good Will Hunting he has a track in it. The music hits a nerve, it is timeless, I still feel the same when i hear his music even 10 years later.

Heaven Adores you was not going to be released any where else. But last week i saw that  they had released another session and Kim and I had to go. The movie went for 1.5 hours but it was amazing. we learnt't  so much more about the person who he was and the music. It was a touching commemoration or tribute to him.
It was special  that we where part of this experience that no one else in Australia might ever see. I felt humbled to be a part of it.

We got a photo with the Director Nickolas Rossi.
After the documentary we went and had dinner at Fomo Thai again.

We had a Pork belly salad and some steak thing that melted in your mouth.
By the time we got home it had been a long relaxing yet emotional day.

Fomo Thai

FOMO Thai on UrbanspoonFomo Thai

In Melbourne we have such a huge selection of choices with food, you name..we probably have it. We have extremes of both absolutely mind blowing to you know you will get food poisoned. When our Thai friend suggests a place we know it will be great. Fomo Thai is amazing, I read some of the reviews says customer service was terrible and for us that was not the case. Maybe because our friend spoke Thai?

From the outside it looks like a small place but it had a floor above is full of tables. When we got there is was quiet, but by the time we left it was busy.
The most popular item was the Crispy Pork Belly

The Crispy Pork Belly came with three sauces, Sweet Chili, Oyster sauce and I have no idea :), but the pork was so crunchy but not dry. All the flavours and textures makes me want to go back again.
The second dish was a Deep fried green papaya salad with spicy tangy dressing

The Papaya was so fresh, Thai food really has such an array of flavours that can be light and delicate to heavy and creamy.
The third dish was the Red Duck Curry

The duck was perfect. Not dry at all, it was not a heavy curry like some other places but light, sweet and spicy.

We had the Grilled skewered pork balls; it was something completely different to what I have had before. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Full of spices.

I have no idea what the deserts are, but a great way to top of a fantastic meal.
It was worth going here.
We will be back.
